Software and Support

In addition to instruction, the GISC offers support and access to specialized software for building, managing, and processing geographic information.

An agreement with Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI is a world leader in GIS software technology) has allowed the GISC to manage the distribution of some of the GIS software packages to which UC Berkeley has a site license. This insures affordable access to some of the latest geographic information technologies for individuals or groups on campus. See our software page.

In addition, the GISC offers consulting services to campus constituents, including but not limited to, advice on equipment configuration and instrumentation, project design, connectivity to the campus license servers, and database design. GISC also is interested in participating in grant proposal development and to act as a hub for collaborative research on topics in geographic information science. Our official recharge rates are governed by Financial and Business Services.
